Halloween Drive-by Boo-thday Bash
Halloween is by far my son’s favorite holiday, so much so he’s been wanting to have a Halloween themed party for his 5th birthday since last year. But oh boy, what a wild year this has been! Even though we weren’t able to celebrate his big day the way it used to be this year, I definitely wanted to make it extra special and memorable!
Drive-by Costume Party
There are a few ideas to celebrate kids birthdays during quarantine. We landed with a drive-by/stop-by, low-contact celebration with a small group of our local family and friends in our driveway, which made it possible to still still feel festive for this special occasion yet socially distanced! Since it was a Halloween themed party, kids got to dressed up in their favorite costumes, a perfect warm-up to the Halloween season!
Driveway Backdrop Decorations
Balloons and signs are probably two of the most important elements to a drive-by birthday party. Yao and I had an idea of making an eye-catching sign to mark this milestone by setting up a backdrop with a gigantic “5” balloon mosaic next to it. We made a balloon garland in black and silver and incorporated some black and white striped foil balloons, a jumbo silver orbz balloon and this adorable spider balloon. To add some texture to the back drop, we draped a silver curtain over the structure and added this boo-tasic Halloween large garland that features all the favorite Halloween characters including a skeleton, a ghost, a witch, and a bat. It’s absolutely spook-tacular!Balloon Mosaic
Our local girl, Andrea from @miaemmalove who is also an event stylist was so kind and made us this awesome balloon mosaic structure using @creativeheartstudio’s template! We filled the structure with some black, mint and chrome green balloons, inspired by our “Witch Please” party look and added these cute little spider eyes mini balloons. Love how it turned out! Front Yard Decorations
Since it was a Halloween themed party, including some fun Halloween inflatables in the front yard was a definitely a no-brainer!To add some more spookiness, I hung these ghost decorations around the house with spiderweb decorations on the trees. These ghost decorations came with the strings which made decorating the yard effortless!
Driveway Dessert Table
I prepared a driveway table filled with Halloween themed treats including cupcakes, marshmallows, candies, popcorns, etc. I made sure they were wrapped individually so it was easy for the guests to bring home and enjoy them in their cars. I love these "doomsday" tableware collection by Daydream society. They matched perfectly with the theme of the party. Did you see? Even the hand sanitizer was dressed-up! :)
Coffin Cake
I saw this coffin cake mold in the Halloween section at Target and immediately decided I was going to bake the cake for my son’s birthday. I was inspired by some of the graveyard Halloween desserts that I saw on Pinterest and came up with my own version of this coffin cake using cake mixes and chocolate Oreos. Not only did it turned out boo-tastic, all the guests at the party loved it! Check out this blog post for the detailed recipe!
Halloween Cookies
Alison from @koopiescookies made these adorable Halloween themed cookies that matched the party invitation. I love these simple yet playful designs and of course the kiddos absolutely couldn’t get enough of it!
Goodie Bags
Next to the treat table, I set up a mini table for the goodies bags and decorated it with a paper spiderweb fan and a honeycomb candy corn. I love these pink boo and black bats party bags! They’re just a little bit spooky but a whole lot of sweet. Perfect for the little ones!
My son had a blast at this party! I was so glad that he got a chance to see some of his friends after a few months of lockdown. I hope you found these ideas helpful! Don’t forget to check out our Halloween Collection and celebrate this fun holiday with your little ones!
Until next time!
Xoxo,
Tai
